A One Week workshop on āResume Writingā was organized by Department of Management Studies at PIET from 27th April, 2020-01st May, 2020. The workshop aimed at facilitating the students of MBA 2nd year to learn effective resume writing and increase their chances of being hired. The workshop organizers were Dr. Ankur Sabharwal and Ms. Sonu Kumari, Assistant Professors in the Department of Management Studies. Kajal Kapoor, a student of MBA 2nd year acted as the student coordinator. The sessions were conducted on MS Teams (Online platform).
The resource person, Ms. Sonu Kumari delivered sessions and guided the students with ways to build an impressive and opportunity grabbing resume. She claimed that an effective resume can act as the first interaction between the job seekers and the employer. Further she added that a good resume not only helps to get an interview opportunity but it also increases the chances of getting selected for a job. She explained the importance of a good resume and what formats can be used while sending the resume via email, post, in personal and other modes.
During the sessions, she highlighted different areas of a resume that one should keep in mind. While elaborating, she advised the resume should be a true depiction of oneself. One should always take care of format, chronology, grammatical errors, typo errors, alignment, background, font style and size in his/her resume. The skills mentioned in the resume should be true enough to be supported by real life evidences. The ācareer objectiveā mentioned in the resume should not only state a studentās expectations from the potential organization but should focus majorly on the contributions that a candidate can make to the organizationās growth along with self-development. She provided additional tips for writing academic and professional achievements, educational qualifications, contact details, references, photograph, personal details and other aspects of an impactful resume.
On 4th May 2020, Prof. S.K.Bedi (Chief Academic Mentor, PIET) concluded the workshop and gave suggestions to the students for making their resume incomparable. He said āa resume is not your advertisement, but a set of information about youā. He also added that a candidate should never share the same resume to different employers but it should be customized according to the requirements of the job. āA resume should be in alignment with your true skill setā he added.
The Head of the department, Dr. Akhilesh Mishra, thanked Prof. S.K.Bedi for his valuable suggestions, guidance and support. Dr. Mishra also congratulated the organizers, coordinators and participants for being a part of this worthy event. He further promised that such events will be a part of departmental initiatives future.
Dr. Ankur Sabharwal (Assistant Professor, Marketing) added the thank you note by saying that, āWe at PIET believe that the credit for all such events related to studentsā development does not belong to a few counted people but it is a teamwork altogetherā. The organizers and coordinators thanked the whole team and faculty members of Department of Management Studies for their continuous support and guidance.
The title for āBest Resumeā title was grabbed as a tie between Paras Batra and Navneet Kaur.
