B.Tech. Virtual Orientation 2020

It is rightly said where there is a will, there is a way. When one door closes, a bigger and better door always opens. Of course, one must look for it. Since every cloud has silver line, the COVID19 pandemic led to the invention of virtual class rooms, probably ahead of times. This year “Virtual Orientation” was held for the new B.Tech entrants on October 5, 2020. The event was organised for all the admitted (P) B.tech- first-year students by the Department of Applied Sciences and Humanities under the guidance of Head of Department, Dr.Vinay Khatri. 

Virtual Orientation 2020 began with the welcome address by Dr. Vinay Khatri. She made all the students acquainted with the important aspects of the institute. Not only she motivated the aspirants with her incredible insights, but also dispensed valuable information in terms of facilities at the campus. After that, Prof. (Dr.) Shakti Kumar, Director, PIET, delivered an inspirational talk. His valuable words of wisdom gave an excellent orientation in its true sense. 

Subsequently, the confidence booster session by Mr. Surya NarainBahadur, Transformation Enabler, Resource Person & Corporate Trainer, directed this orientation into a desired angle of enthusiasm, innovation, and creativity. It invoked a sense of purpose amongst the students.  The session was named as“GUNG HO” and lasted 3 hours. The students took great interest and exuberantly participated in the session.

On October 6, 2020, Ms. Tamanna acquainted the students with the scheme of syllabus on ZOOM platform. Then on October 7, 2020, Dr Sanjeev talked about the code of conduct and moral/ethical responsibilities. The other day i.e. October 8, 2020, the lab visits were conducted virtually. On 9th October, MS Teams was introduced to the students as as it was to be the foundation of virtual classes. So, the Teams ID and password were distributed along with the demo of MS teams by Dr. Poonam and Dr.Rachna.

On October 12, 2020, the workshop “Learning with Fun”, which was a part of Orientation Programme, was organised to give an exposure of diverse dimensions to build the required skill sets among the students. The event was preceded by an expert speaker, Mr Rajesh Mishra, Founder Director, Temple of Learning and Guide4Careers. He gave his enriching insights on the importance of skill sets and talked about his expertise in Aptitude Training. Then, Prof. Vijay Athawale, Dean Engineering, PIET, enlightened the students with respect to HACKATHON. He gave due emphasis on creativity and innovation. Further, he talked about the Smart India Hackathon and threw light on its valuable aspects. Then, Mr Devesh Das, General Manager, LIVPURE, gave his exceptional address on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). His industry expertise and experience gave a fair idea to the students of Start-ups and Industry-ready professionals.

In the end, Mr Arindam Bhattacharya, A Renowned Career Expert, Motivational Speaker, Quiz Master, Trainer and Business Consultant, oriented the students with his insightful words. His tremendous exposure and experience gave a desired angle of versatility. This event was finally concluded with a Vote of Thanks.

Furthermore, AICTE organised eSIP 2020, an Online Student Induction Program (SIP) for the students from November 8, 2020 to November 13, 2020. Undoubtedly, it was a great initiative to orient the students in the best possible manner. Students not only just attended but also participated in making the best use of those well-thought-out sessions.
