Mechanical engineering is the application of the principles and problem-solving techniques of engineering from design to manufacturing to the market place for any object. Mechanical engineering careers center on creating technologies to meet human needs. Mechanical engineers today are pursing development in the field such as robotics, nanotechnology, mechatronics, electrical vehicles, finite element mechanics to name a few. This field of study also overlaps with aerospace engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, electronics engineering and computer science engineering to varying amount.
The department is currently offering undergraduate programme in mechanical engineering as well as addition of core mechanical engineering with some of the latest advancement in industries like 3-D printing, robotics and electrical vehicals as honors course. The programme is four-year professional undergraduate degree programme with 160 credits distributed in entire course span. Along with this student can also earn 20 credit points for honors degree. The programme is designed by university and executed by institute as per the latest industrial needs with focused outcome based evaluation model.
During the programme student get plenty of exposure with industries with regards to their work culture, methodologies used, machinery as a part of industrial visits. Students also got a chance to share their knowledge, learn from other students as well as a chance to represent their institute during student exchange programme with renowned institutes PIET have tie-up with. The institute have a great track record in terms of placement with students getting placed in many MNCs and government jobs also. The department create ample opportunities for students to sharpen their skillset by organizing time to time workshop for English spoken classes, GATE classes as well as nontechnical classes.
